The 5 Google Search Console reports every marketer should check weekly (and almost no one does)
Every SEO tool you pay for is trying to approximate what Google Search Console tells you for free. And yet 80% of the accounts we take over have GSC connected but nobody actually reading it. Here are the five reports we open every Monday and the exact action each one triggers.
1. Queries by position 8–20 (weekly delta). Filter Performance report for queries where average position is between 8 and 20 — these are the 'almost there' keywords one push away from page 1. Sort by impressions descending. Every keyword on that list gets 3–5 new internal links this week, using the internal linking playbook. Almost always, 20–30% of them jump to page 1 within a month.
2. Pages with declining CTR. Compare the last 28 days vs. the previous 28 days, sort by CTR delta. Any page that lost more than 2 points of CTR usually has a title tag or meta description problem, or a new SERP feature (ad, video, AI Overview) is eating the clicks. Rewrite the title/description or restructure the content for AI Overview citation (see our AI Overviews playbook).
3. New queries you never targeted. Filter for queries with impressions but no clicks, sort by impressions. These are queries Google thinks your page is relevant for — sometimes surprisingly so. If a query has 500+ impressions and no dedicated content, it's a free content idea validated by Google itself.
4. Index coverage errors, weekly. Any spike in 'Crawled — currently not indexed' or 'Discovered — currently not indexed' means Google is telling you the pages aren't good enough. Don't ignore it. Audit the flagged pages, improve or consolidate them, and resubmit.
5. Core Web Vitals report by URL group. Anything red or amber for mobile is a direct ranking penalty in 2026. Our image optimization playbook and Core Web Vitals process fix 90% of the issues that show up in this report.
The 20-minute Monday ritual
Open GSC, run all five reports in order, log any changes bigger than the threshold in a shared doc, assign each finding to a person, close the tab. Twenty minutes a week compounds into more SEO gains than most agencies deliver in a quarter.
Every SEO management plan we run includes a weekly GSC review with a written action log delivered to the client. Run the calculator or book a free GSC audit — we'll send back the five reports above for your property with our recommended actions.
